Brand Nubian is an American hip hop group from New Rochelle, New York, composed of three emcees: Grand Puba, Sadat X and Lord Jamar, and formerly two DJs: DJ Alamo and DJ Sincere. Its debut album, One for All is one of the most popular and acclaimed alternative hip hop albums of the 1990s, known for socially conscious and political lyrics inspired by the teachings of the Nation of Gods and Earths. com placed the group on its list of the 25 Greatest Rap Groups of All Time.

Foundation is the fourth release from Hip Hop group Brand Nubian. it was released on September 29, 1998. The album marked the reunion of the four original members, Grand Puba, Sadat X, Lord Jamar and DJ Alamo, who hadn't released an album together since their 1990 debut One for All. Foundation saw the group regain their past success, critically and commercially

Brand Nubian never sold as many albums as the many West Coast rappers burning up the charts in the early '90s, but the New York group commanded great respect in East Coast rap circles. In black neighborhoods of New York and Philadelphia, Nubian's debut album, One for All, was actually a bigger seller than many of the platinum gangsta rap releases outselling it on a national level.

Hailing from New Rochelle, New York, the original members, Maxwell Dixon AKA Grand Puba, Derrick Murphy AKA Sadat X, Lorenzo DeChalus AKA Lord Jamar, and Alamo formed Brand Nubian in 1989, after Puba stepped away from his former group, Masters Of Ceremony (2). They signed to Elektra and released the breakthrough album "One for All", most remembered for the sampling of Edie.

Once again BRAND NUBIAN! Who about to rock shit? Once again BRAND NUBIAN! . Verse Three: Sadat X I’m here seven nights a week, no charge, and for Two drink minimum, the Wild Cowboy number one With them C-Town and Manhattan street pose To they dancers on Thursday’s for all the lost souls Laid out in bed she offering, don’t want the pussy Fell for the hype but now I wanna stretch her.

The Brand Nubian 'movement' could have folded after Grand Puba opted out after their first album(the classic "All For One"). Thankfully, just two years after the debut, Lord Jamar and Sadat X returned, along with DJ Sincere, carrying on the Brand Nubian name and the teachings of the 5% of Islam. Here, you get to know Sadat and Jamar much better, since Puba had so much solo time on the debut album. Sadat X's nasaly, high-pitched voice and fluctuating quick flow is a perfect contrast to Lord Jamar's strong and steady flow  . Brand Nubian began to get very militant about their religious beliefs. I'm wondering if their religion really supports excessive swearing, radical physical violence, smoking ganja, and sleeping with whomever, whenever, like Brand Nubain offers. Oh well, I like this cd a lot and at least they are MC's dedicated to something.

On December 4, 1990, Brand Nubian released their classic Five Mic debut album One For All on Elektra Records. Boasting production Dante Ross, Skeff Anslem, the SD 50s(Stimulated Dummies), Jam as well as their own hands on the boards, Brand Nubian arguably released one of the most influential debut albums in Hip Hop history. the type of record that captures a whole world of music, rhymes and vibes with a completely new style.
