When Jim Jarmusch was a boy, he knew to steer clear of the water because, while the town might be placid, the Cuyahoga river was toxic. Pickling acids had stained it bright orange. Factory detergents had put a white froth on its surface. The place was too small, too conservative. Everyone worked for the rubber companies: his dad for BF Goodrich, his uncle for Goodyear, his neighbour for Firestone. His mum, Betty French, had been an arts reporter for the Akron Beacon Journal. But he also drew inspiration from a more lurid source. The ghost-host Ghoulardi was a costumed presenter who introduced B-movies on Cleveland’s JWJ-TV station.

Mad Dogs & Englishmen is a live album by Joe Cocker, released in 1970. The album's title is drawn from the 1931 Noël Coward song of the same name. Only four songs of the 16 on the original album were drawn from his first two studio albums. Besides the contributions of bandmate and musical director Leon Russell, it draws equally from rock (the Rolling Stones, Traffic, Bob Dylan, the Beatles) and soul (Ray Charles, Sam and Dave, Otis Redding).

High Hat is a 1989 album compiling tracks from Boy George's second and third UK and European solo albums, Tense Nervous Headache and Boyfriend.

But in his first major move post-Suncor, Mr. Oil Sands is sticking close to home. He has been named chairman of Osum Oil Sands Corp. The carbonates are poised to become the next chapter in the oil sands – they are a different type of rock from traditional oil sand deposits, and have long been considered too difficult to extract. Osum has regulatory approval to build 45,000 barrels a day in oil sands projects. But it remains an early stage company: despite estimates of 22 billion barrels of oil on its land, it has a slimmer 359 million barrels in reserves. It expects to pump its first barrel in 2016. Still, it has attracted some serious interest.
