Nightdust," which takes up the original second side of the album, captures the original psych-jam feeling of Ash Ra Tempel. A lengthy Gottsching guitar solo, heavily processed and extremely trebly, begins the piece over a series of soft synth shadings, leading to a marvelous composition with chilly, spectral keyboards and, later, deep electronic pulses and more straightforward guitar.

Ash Ra Tempel was a German krautrock group active from 1970 to 1976. It was Manuel Göttsching's first prominent musical output. Ash Ra Tempel featured revolving members, with only Göttsching remaining constant. Eventually, Göttsching retired the use of the Ash Ra Tempel name after he became the sole remaining member. New Age of Earth is not only Ash Ra's supreme achievement-it's also one of the finest "popular" electronic music records ever conceived and executed. The soaring "Sunrain," with its chugging electro-rhythmic pulse, is an appropriate album opener and is followed by the cathartic "Ocean of Tenderness," its deep, resonant bass drone and waves of rising and falling synths sweeping the listener to realms of eternal bliss
