If The Besnard Lakes Are the Roaring Night was a more direct take on the band’s attack, Until In Excess, Imperceptible UFO takes the opposite route, focusing instead on slow climaxes and overall slower tempos. Alamogordo sees 45 seconds go by before any percussion is even heard. But the album’s overall lack of immediacy also happens to be one of its greatest strengths, challenging the listener to invest more attention to reap the rewards from its measured pace
A new studio album, Until in Excess, Imperceptible UFO, was released in April 2013. In June the album was longlisted for the 2013 Polaris Music Prize. In 2014, guitarist Richard White removed himself from the band's touring line-up.
The recording of Until in Excess, Imperceptible UFO featured greater involvement from guitarist Richard White and drummer Kevin Laing, with vocalist and guitarist Jace Lasek noting: "Now, everybody feels that they've invested in the same thing. The four of us feel quite proud and strong about this record because we all worked on it. Kevin and Richard saw more of the creative process than they had before and that really helped bring the band together.
The Besnard Lakes create a distinct and dreamy headspace, an enigmatic and somehow familiar placelessness. It happens in such a way that both the close and casual listener find themselves immersed in the generous sonic vision, one moment as timeless as the next. TRACKLIST: 1. 46 Satires 2. Begun in 2011 at the Montreal dream pop act's own Breakglass Studios, Until in Excess, Imperceptible UFO is the Besnard Lakes ' fourth full-length and keeps to their habit of releasing a dense, lovingly crafted album awash with crunching guitars and hazy strings every three to four years. Led and formed by the husband/wife duo of Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas, it's clear that Breakglass is the key instrument when defining the Besnards ' sound.
It is enlivening to see Besnard Lakes fall into atmosphere without losing its previous identity of compositions that wind in different shapes and takes as each song progresses very much like the North American landscape. This album should not be slept on, this is their strongest work to date. 0 of 0 users found this helpful. New & Recent Releases A-Z by Artist. New & Recent Releases by Date.
