Traffic’s self-titled second album, also released in 1968, was a masterpiece. Traffic included a bluesy plaint from Mason, Feelin’ Alright, that later became a hit for Joe Cocker. A third Traffic album, Last Exit, was assembled from non-album singles and live recordings. The group proved to be a phoenix, however, reassembling sans Mason to record John Barleycorn Must Die (1970), their highest-charting album (Number Five). It was highlighted by the haunting title track, a traditional British folk song; the funky instrumental Glad ; and the stormy Freedom Rider, whose urgency and drive captured Traffic at its best.

The Last Great Traffic Jam, a double live album and DVD released in 2005, documents the band's 1994 reunion tour. The four original members of Traffic were inducted for their contributions in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on 15 March 2004. Winwood, Capaldi, Mason, and Stephanie Wood (standing in for her late brother Chris) all attended the ceremony. Winwood and Capaldi took part in the induction performance, but were joined by Dave Mason performing his song 'Feelin' Alright' for the grand finale which also featured Keith Richards, Tom Petty and the Temptations.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame doesn't have a great track record when it comes to inducting progressive rock bands. King Crimson practically invented the genre, and they haven't even appeared on the ballot. Genesis got in back in 2010, but they transformed into a pop band in the 1980s and that probably played a role in their induction. Jethro Tull may have beaten Metallica for a Grammy in 1989, but they certainly didn't become 1980s mainstream hitmakers, despite a few half-hearted attempts. They were always more of an album band or a live experience. Devoted fans love them dearly, but everyone else is only vaguely aware a group called Little Feat even exists. An induction into the Hall of Fame might change that, but the whole thing becomes a Catch-22.

Love, love, love the Rock ‘n Roll hall of fame any of the exhibits that I could. Great tribute to the music of my life.
