Produced by John Parish & Aldous Harding. He took me to a clearing The grass was warm And the air was soft. He had me sit like a baby I looked just twelve With his thumb in my mouth. I was as happy as I will ever be Believe in me I will never break from you If there is a party, will you wait for me? I felt slow on the journey you planned I was ashamed When you yelled my name Stones smell good when you cuddle them All in a stack
The follow-up to the self-described "gothic folk" singer/songwriter's 2015 eponymous debut, Party is downcast New Zealander Aldous Harding's first outing for 4AD. It's a fitting partnership, as her minimalist, chamber pop arrangements, dark confessional lyrics, and ning vibe invoke some of the famed British independent label's most notable exports (Kristin Hersh, Kendra Smith, Lisa Germano, Emma Pollock, et.
Hannah Harding (born 1990), known professionally as Aldous Harding, is a New Zealand folk singer-songwriter. She has been represented by independent record labels Flying Nun Records and Spunk Records. 4AD announced Harding as a new signing in early 2017 just prior to the release of her second album.
Party (LP, Album, Ltd + 7", S/Sided, Single). Maybe it's that it's from my homeland NZ. Maybe it's the title-track's perfectly haunting querulousness. Either way, this album is a striking confluence of what's good, true and beautiful in new folk music, whilst being pop-inflected in just the right, minimal way. Imagining My Man and Horizon are singles as perfect as could be hoped for in this field. And just what is she on about in that title-track?
Party (Aldous Harding album). 2017 studio album by Aldous Harding. Rob Mesure of musicOMH praised the album, saying, "Shifting moods and voices effortlessly, Harding is an often technically astonishing performer, and Party is a work of quiet power.

Aldous is experimenting with at least 5 different ways of singing in a superb way that makes me very sure that we will listen to great songs from her in the future.
The latest is Aldous Harding, whose second album of hypnotic folk flowers into something far more opaque and artistically evolved. Producer John Parish’s long association with PJ Harvey is a reference point, but Harding is her own woman, an arresting vocalist whose mannered deliveries – from chanteuse to jazzy – and intense themes defy obvious influence. Titles such as What If Birds Aren’t Singing They’re Screaming and Swell Does the Skull (featuring Perfume Genius) evince the best kind of gothic bent, but there is much else to get lost in here: stones that feel, instruments barely caressed.
