Complete your Various, Ira Newborn collection. Beat City" by The Flowerpot Men is a new mix and is slightly different from the original 7" fan club release but still just as good. I don't think most folks have never heard the complete original version. The booklet also features tons of notes about the score & music of the movie. I'd say thumbs up if you can grab a copy.
The score for Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is by composer Ira Newborn, who in the 1980s and early 1990s enjoyed a series of successes scoring popular theatrical comedies such as Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, Planes Trains and Automobiles, Dragnet, Uncle Buck, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and all three films in the Naked Gun franchise.

Ferris Bueller is also one of those films that is heavily quotable, with several of Matthew Broderick’s & wall’ speeches able to be recited verbatim. Let my Cameron go, Nine times, and Abe Froman, sausage king of Chicago are easily tabbed as Bueller-isms. On top of that, the meeting of music and image was never quite as harmonious as it was with Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Unbelievably, a soundtrack album was never released, despite having some of the most memorable movie music in history.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off," which celebrated its 30th birthday in June, has long been the most popular movie without a soundtrack from a decade crawling with them - whether baked into a film’s plot ("The Blues Brothers," "Footloose," "Dirty Dancing"), tangential to it ("Back to the Future") or bolted on to grab a. piece of MTV’s action ("Top Gun"). John Hughes, the writer and director of "Ferris," was an obsessive music fan who cemented the legacies of several artists by building film scenes around their songs.
