It was released by Rhino Records on April 20, 2004.
This also applies to Garcia's studio records, but as a whole they're more problematic than the Dead's catalog. For all these reasons, listening to the entirety of Rhino's exhaustive six-disc box set All Good Things: Jerry Garcia Studio Sessions can be a little exhausting.
Almost a decade after his passing, appreciation for Jerry Garcia as a quintessential American artist has replaced the Cosmic Noodler stereotype. He took the trinity of American roots music - blues, country and jazz - and melded it into a unique hybrid, a true American beauty that is his legacy. The six-CD All Good Things contains five studio albums, plus hours of superior outtakes by the various incarnations of the Jerry Garcia Band . Essentially, there’s the first album, 1972’s Garcia, and then there’s everything else. The Dead’s finest live albums, Live Dead and Europe ’72, as well as their most enduring studio albums, Workingman’s Dead and American Beauty, emerged during this same early-Seventies period.
And I think Jerry Garcia's solo stuff is especially interesting, each album presenting one particular segment of his wide-ranging musical palette. The first Garcia is experimental, all original music, performed almost solo; the second Garcia is its opposite: well-produced slick arrangements of cover songs with many sidemen helping out; Garcia is convincing in both settings and it's no coincidence he named both albums Garcia: it's as if both extremes fit his personality perfectly . This is a wonderful CLASSIC Jerry Garcia Album. Having lived in the Haight I got to see Jerry and the boys for free many-a-times and miss the mellow crowd and the great atmosphere. 2 people found this helpful.
