Tell It Like It Is" is a song written by George Davis and Lee Diamond and originally recorded and released in 1966 by Aaron Neville. In 2010, the song was ranked No. 391 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. In 1966, Aaron Neville recorded and released the original version of "Tell It Like It Is" on his album also entitled Tell It Like It Is (Par-Lo Records).

The rich heritage that they honor on Like It Is is of a finer pedigree than the back-street mutt boogaloo. They are not true believers. The all-saxophone horn lineup is churning and funky, and the lack of brass adds an interesting timbre that allows the vocalists to shine, not compete. Formed in the Bronx section of Southview during the late '60s, the Latinaires were just one of dozens of younger Latin bands who developed the boogaloo sound. Formed with a line of saxophones instead of the predominant brass, the Latinaires released Camel Walk on the Fania label in 1968.
