Love Bites is the second studio album by English punk rock band Buzzcocks. It was released on 22 September 1978, through United Artists Records. It peaked at number 13 on the UK Albums Chart at the time of its release. Love Bites was recorded and mixed by Buzzcocks with producer Martin Rushent over a two-and-a-half-week period, less than six months after the release of début album Another Music in a Different Kitchen.

More musically accomplished, more obsessively self-questioning, and with equally energetic yet sometimes gloomy performances, Love Bites finds the Buzzcocks coming into their own. With Devoto and his influence now fully worked out of the band's system, Shelley is the clearly predominant voice, with the exception of Diggle's first lead vocal on an album track, the semi-acoustic, perversely sprightly "Love is Lies. Though the song received even further acclaim on Singles Going Steady, "Ever Fallen in Love," for many the band's signature song, appears here.

Singles Going Steady Buzzcocks. While Love Bites - following the excellent Another Music In A Different Kitchen - seemed a little dour and tentative at the time, at the heart lies an urge to finally throw off their past associations and forge something totally their own. The compressed twin guitars, sparse riffs and rumbling toms here reach their apogee. Already Shelley was talking of the past, as if trying to worry at the edges of love's mysteries to explain the inexplicable (Sixteen Again, Nostalgia). Being gay also lent his romanticism a fatalism that made his pleading voice even more affecting.

That aside, what truly stops this being a classic is the decidedly hit-and-miss second side. The energy doesn’t let up until the dire ‘Love Is Lies‘, Steve Diggle taking vocals on this ill-fitting acoustic number that tries to be sentimental. The album never recovers properly from this stumble; the riffs that are left are milked for all they’re worth (’. ), while the ending instrumental, despite a fake fade-out followed by a dramatic crashing return, is head-crushingly repetitive.

Received my copy today (also have an original first pressing) and I reckon this re-issue is excellent, sound quality easily as good as my original copy. Great sounding vinyl, nice quality sleeve/insert which basically sticks to the original and the additional booklet is superb, well done all around, an excellent job!
My copy had slight edge warp and very noticeable clicking on the first track of side A. I got a gat dang dud, I tells ya! Overall, pretty decent. My hype sticker was upside down so it was ominous from the start.
Quality pressing, the audio is clean and the bag is incredible
Nice pressing on white vinyl. Pre ordered my copy and was surprised with the "product" bag. Circle is complete for me.
Great pressing. Low noise. And a great collection of songs.
