Toos Onderdenwijngaard. Profile: Born in Den Haag - The Hague, The Netherlands. Studied with Nelly Wagenaar and Lenie Noske in Amsterdam, followed by years of study with the famous Marguerite Long in Paris and Viola Thern in Vienna. Extensive concert tours, especially in South America, Middle East and Russia. Taught at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague. As a defender of the piano works of Franz Liszt, she founded the Netherlands Liszt Society in 1980.

The radical change Franz Liszt's compositional style underwent in the last 20 years of his life was unprecedented in Western classical music. The tradition of music had been one of unified progression, even to the extent of Johannes Brahms' First Symphony being known as "Beethoven's Tenth". Beethoven's own three periods of composition are monolithic and united. Liszt's, by comparison, seem deconstructivist.

The "Asra" (from opus 32) was transcribed in 1884 by Liszt in a very free way: 46 bars in the original song by Anton Rubinstein, the version of Liszt has 144 bars. For instance, the contrasting broken chords halfway the piece are an addition by Liszt.

The significant effects of the Russian Revolution had a planetary dimension. The significance of the revolution that declared the prosperity of the toiling masses as its utmost end was felt not only by Gandhi. Through this overrun region, Marshal Zhukov told me, so many women, children and old men had been killed that the Russian government would never be able to estimate the total, General Eisenhower recalled later. The flight of the world’s first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin stunned the planet and set a new horizon for humanity.

By the late 1850s, Liszt saw that his ambitious plans to bring about a new golden age in Weimar, with himself and Wagner as the leading spirits, were being „thwarted by the pettyness of certain local aspects as well as local and outside jealousy. In 1879, the Academy moved from its initial rented premises on Hal (Fish) Square to a much larger building on Sugár (Radial) Avenue (the present „Old Academy of Music at the corner of Andrássy Avenue and Vörösmarty Street). Liszt arrived on 21 July 1886, already suffering from a severe cold; he developed pneumonia that claimed his life ten days later.
