Jason & the Scorchers, originally Jason & the Nashville Scorchers, are an alternative country band that formed in 1981 and are led by singer/songwriter Jason Ringenberg. Jason and the Scorchers were something of a novelty in their hometown, Nashville, Tennessee, as their ragged, high-energy music was somewhat unprecedented. This made The Scorchers a natural for eclectic venues such as Nashville's Exit/In. Fervor also attracted much attention for its groundbreaking cover of Bob Dylan's "Absolutely Sweet Marie.

Here, Jason & The Scorchers' live version of Bob Dylan's "Absolutely Sweet Marie" is even faster than the original studio recording. Their cover of Hank Williams' "Honky Tonk Blues" is far more anarchic than their take on "Lost Highway" (which was already beyond the speed limit). They took The Rolling Stones' "19th Nervous Breakdown" and turned up the amps. However, the group also had a long line of impressive originals that showed its aggressive and sensitive sides
